Registration No Longer Required

The Archdiocese of Chicago had lifted most restrictions on Liturgical Celebrations and other events effective June 11, 2021.  Registration with your contact information is no longer be required for events and Mass at Queen of Angels Church or St. Matthias Church.  Most normal practices during Mass such as congregational singing have resumed.  Please note the following suggestions to promote everyone’s safety:

  • As of Friday, August 20, masks will again be required indoors in public spaces for all persons over 2 years old, vaccinated and unvaccinated.  This is in keeping with the latest guidance from the Chicago Department of Public Health as we try to prevent transmission to unvaccinated persons including our young children and to reduce the number of breakthrough infections among vaccinated individuals.  As a matter of faith, please help keep our children and immuno-compromised adults safe by wearing a mask when you enter the churches, schools, gyms, and Parish Center on our two campuses.
  • Should you receive a positive COVID test within 3 days of attending an event at Queen of Apostles please call the parish office at 773-539-7510 to report your illness.

Queen of Apostles Parish would like to thank the many volunteers who have generously given their time to allow us to keep the parish open and operating during the pandemic.  Additionally we appreciate the willingness  of our parishioners and visitors to change with the times and abide by the safety protocols during this time.  We are thankful that we can now resume many of our normal activities.  Our prayers and thoughts go out to the many people who have experienced a loss.

“THEOLOGY ON TAP” 2021

Welcome to the  Theology on Tap 2021 season! Last year’s virtual series was so popular that the Archdiocese of Chicago is sponsoring another virtual series this year. The theme of the 2021 Theology on Tap series is St. Joseph, inspired by the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Blessed Pope Pius IX’s declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church and also in honor of the Year of St. Joseph. Throughout this series, we will explore St. Joseph’s patronage and how the city of Chicago is living by his example today.

July 1 Kickoff: The Universal Church & Accompaniment with Fr. Guillermo “Memo” Campuzano, VP for Mission & Ministry at DePaul University Chicago
Inspired by St. Joseph, the Patron Saint of the Universal Church, Fr. Memo will talk about the Universal Church and accompaniment. He will discuss what it means when we say that the church is universal, how the Church is present around the world and how we are called to be active members of the Universal Church who accompany people no matter the situation, advocating for and developing systemic change programs for people left behind in our society.
7 p.m. Thursday, August 12: St Joseph and Happy Death with Eva Bustamante, Coordinator of Bereavement Ministry for the Catholic Cemeteries of Chicago
Inspired by St. Joseph, the Patron Saint of Happy Deaths, Eva will talk about her work with Catholic Cemeteries. She will explain what it means to have a happy death, why we should reflect on our own mortality and what we can learn from St. Joseph about overcoming death.

World Day of Prayer for Grandparents & the Elderly

Pope Francis has decided to institute a Church-wide celebration of a World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Starting this year, it will be held on the fourth Sunday of July, close to the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), grandparents of Jesus.
With an emphasis on respect for human life at all stages and conditions, this celebration spotlights the isolation that many older persons experience.  Pope Francis writes, “Even at the darkest moments, as in these months of pandemic, the Lord continues to send angels to console our loneliness and to remind us: ‘I am with you always’. He says this to you, and he says it to me. That is the meaning of this Day, which I wanted to celebrate for the first time in this particular year, as a long period of isolation ends and social life slowly resumes. May every grandfather, every grandmother, every older person, especially those among us who are most alone, receive the visit of an angel!  At times those angels will have the face of our grandchildren, at others, the face of family members, lifelong friends or those we have come to know during these trying times, when we have learned how important hugs and visits are for each of us. How sad it makes me that in some places these are still not possible!  The Lord, however, also sends us messengers through his words, which are always at hand.”
Let us honor and thank our older parishioners and grandparents for the rich gifts of faith and wisdom that seniors pass to the generations that follow them.
Prayer

I thank You, Lord, for the comfort of Your presence: even in times of loneliness, You are my hope and my confidence, You have been my rock and my fortress since my youth! I thank You for having given me a family and for having blessed me with a long life. I thank You for moments of joy and difficulty, for the dreams that have already come true in my life and for those that are still ahead of me. I thank You for this time of renewed fruitfulness to which You call me. Increase, O Lord, my faith, make me a channel of your peace, teach me to embrace those who suffer more than me, to never stop dreaming and to tell of your wonders to new generations. Protect and guide Pope Francis and the Church, that the light of the Gospel might reach the ends of the earth. Send Your Spirit, O Lord, to renew the world, that the storm of the pandemic might be calmed, the poor consoled and wars ended. Sustain me in weakness and help me to live life to the full in each moment that You give me, in the certainty that you are with me every day, even until the end of the age. Amen.

JORNADA MUNDIAL DE ORACIÓN de los Abuelos y de los Mayores
El Santo Padre Francisco ha decidido instituir en toda la Iglesia la celebración de la Jornada Mundial de los Abuelos y de los Mayores, que se celebrará, a partir de este año, el cuarto domingo de julio, cerca de la memoria litúrgica de los santos Joaquín y Ana, abuelos de Jesús.
Con un énfasis en el respeto de la vida humana en todas las etapas y condiciones, esta celebración pone de relieve el aislamiento que experimentan muchas personas de edad.  El Papa Francisco escribe: “Pero incluso cuando todo parece oscuro, como en estos meses de pandemia, el Señor sigue enviando ángeles para consolar nuestra soledad y repetirnos: ‘Yo estoy contigo todos los días’. Esto te lo dice a ti, me lo dice a mí, a todos. Este es el sentido de esta Jornada que he querido celebrar por primera vez precisamente este año, después de un largo aislamiento y una reanudación todavía lenta de la vida social. ¡Que cada abuelo, cada anciano, cada abuela, cada persona mayor —sobre todo los que están más solos— reciba la visita de un ángel!  A veces tendrán el rostro de nuestros nietos, otras veces el rostro de familiares, de amigos de toda la vida o de personas que hemos conocido durante este momento difícil. En este tiempo hemos aprendido a comprender lo importante que son los abrazos y las visitas para cada uno de nosotros, ¡y cómo me entristece que en algunos lugares esto todavía no sea posible!  Sin embargo, el Señor también nos envía sus mensajeros a través de la Palabra de Dios, que nunca deja que falte en nuestras vidas.”  
     Honremos y agradezcamos a nuestros feligreses mayores y abuelos por los ricos dones de fe y sabiduría que las personas mayores transmiten a las generaciones que los siguen.

Te doy las gracias, Señor, por el consuelo de tu presencia: También en la soledad, eres mi esperanza, mi confianza; ¡Desde mi juventud, eres mi roca y mi fortaleza! Gracias por haberme dado una familia y por la bendición de una larga vida. Te agradezco los momentos de alegría y de dificultad, por los sueños cumplidos y por los que aún tengo por delante. Te agradezco este tiempo de renovada fecundidad al que me llamas. Aumenta, Señor, mi fe, hazme un instrumento de tu paz; enséñame a acoger a quien sufre más que yo, a no dejar de soñar y a narrar tus maravillas a las nuevas generaciones. Protege y guía al papa Francisco y a la Iglesia, para que la luz del Evangelio llegue hasta los confines de la tierra. Envía tu Espíritu, Señor, a renovar el mundo, para que la tormenta de la pandemia se apacigüe, los pobres sean consolados y toda guerra termine. Sostenme en la debilidad, y concédeme vivir plenamente cada momento que me das, con la certeza de que estás conmigo cada día hasta el fin del mundo.  Amén.

English Mass Stream Time Change

Starting the weekend of July 17/18 Queen of Apostles will stream the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass in English rather than the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Mass.  The Spanish Mass will continue to be streamed at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
