We are pleased to welcome Stare at the Sun in concert at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday, October 23 in our shared worship space at 2330 W. Sunnyside. Stare at the Sun is a local, professional mixed-voice chamber choir aiming to engage artists and the general public with issues of social responsibility and the complexities of living in the 21st century. “Returning” functions as the group’s return to in-person group singing, beginning with the choir’s performance of Stölzel’s musical meditation on the Sanskrit “universal breath mantra,” then unfolding with repertoire addressing the issues we’ve all struggled with over the past year — isolation, loneliness, loss of loved ones — including a commissioned work by local composer Matt Recio, exploring the phenomenon of touch starvation and its effects on our bodies and minds. The second half of the program is about moving forward, re-establishing human connection, and grappling with the crisis of meaning that has tortured people increasingly since the pandemic began, closing with the world premiere of Oh Me! Oh Life! by Alex Berko.
General admission ($25) or student tickets ($10) can be reserved at the Stare at the Sun web site. Please note that Stare at the Sun requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination at the door for every attendee. Please bring either your vaccination card or a photo of the card and present it upon arrival. Admission is not allowed without proof of vaccination; no exceptions! Thank you for your help to keep both singers and audience safe while navigating a return to in-person choral concerts.
