Our Lady of Lourdes Benefit Concert

What: Awakening Concert benefiting the Our Lady of Lourdes Soup Kitchen
When: Friday, February 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm CST
“AWAKENING” happens when passion meets purpose. 
On Friday, Feb 12, 2021 at 7 p.m. our AWAKENING  Concert will combine music and imagery for the purpose of supporting our Soup Kitchen of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. The concert will feature a World Premiere of a Latin orchestral piece written by Julian Molina Abad and conducted by Sam Sharp. We will also be gifted by the Gospel Choir of St. Agatha parish as well as our own soloist Jennifer Carlin.
Fr. Michael Shanahan and Johanna Ortegon will present a variation of the Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto on two pianos. This virtual concert will be testimony to the power that is created when passion unites with purpose. Our ultimate sense of purpose and passion comes from Christ.
Thank God for the faith that leads us forward.

 The sun will be setting on 2020 and a new year, full of hope, is on the horizon. As you shout your hoorays for the expectations of good things to come in 2021, please also take a moment to reflect on the new found strength and positivity that has come from persevering in a very challenging year.  

At Queen of Angels School, we are counting our blessings. One such blessing is that we have a wonderful new principal who has dedicated herself to the safety of our teachers and students, while keeping the school’s doors open for the option of in-person learning. In addition, our school has developed methods to successfully deliver diverse curricula to our in-person and virtual learners, inclusive of technology, music, and art in the form of social-emotional learning strategies. 

Our technology resources have helped students learn new ways to be organized and keep open the lines of communication with our virtual learners. Further, music and art have provided our students a valuable outlet to express their emotions as they continue to adapt to a new reality. 

 Thank you to our Annual Fund donors whose contributions have helped drive many of the advancements at our school. As we turn to 2021, however, the challenges of 2020 will linger and therefore, your financial support is needed more than ever to continue writing our success story.

A SPRED Thank You

On behalf of all of the volunteer catechists and our SPRED Friends, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parishioners of Queen of Angels/St. Matthias parish for their wonderful generosity in response to the Tootsie Roll Drive of the Knights of Columbus.  Because of your generosity we will be able to maintain and improve our SPRED meeting space housed at the parish office center at 4412 N. Western Ave.

As a result of the challenges of Covid, we will be reimagining our lovely meeting space to adapt to the times.   We are reworking our groups in order to be able to provide a place and a partner for all of our young adult and adult Friends.   Another challenge that faces us now is the recruitment of more volunteers to fill the spaces of catechists who have decided to retire – all who have offered multiple years of dedication to the SPRED ministry.  And so … we are on a determined search for new and younger men & woman to step into the shoes of theses wonderful people to bring new life to our SPRED communities.  Our Friends rely on a personal relationship – a partner to walk with them in faith though a life giving process which offers a place of peace, hope and love.   We all need this.  We all need to walk hand in hand in faith and fellowship to find the good in life – in one another.  To discover over and over again Joy in Life.
