SVDP Food Drive Update
The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is grateful for the generosity of the parishioners who donated to the annual Lenten food drive. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to serve 73 neighborhood families including a refuge family that arrived in Chicago last summer. We will distribute some of the extra food in the weeks to come through the little outdoor pantry at St. Matthias. In addition to serving the material needs of our neighbors, we were also able to connect families with children to prepare for the sacraments; for some neighbors, this is their first contact with the Catholic Church in Chicago. May God bless you for your generosity to your neighbors!
Catholic Schools Week
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Catholic Schools Week begins on the last Sunday in January. This year, Catholic Schools Week will take place Sunday, January 30 through Saturday, February 5.
The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2022 is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” As communities of faith, Catholic schools instill in students their destiny to become saints. Academic excellence is the hallmark of Catholic education intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Finally, service is fundamental to Catholic education and the core of Catholic discipleship. Service is intended to help form people who are not only witnesses to Catholic social teaching, but also active participants through social learning.

Mass for Lost Children
A Mass for Lost Children will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Sunday, January 23. This annual Mass honors the memory of any children that have been lost to members of our parish community. Any who are mourning children of any age or relation, for any reason — such as abduction, abortion, accident, illness, miscarriage, suicide, or violence — are invited to pray with us, and allow our parish community to pray for you and for your precious child. Prayer intentions for individual children may be written at any time in the parish petitions book, which is located on a stand in the back aisle of the church, near the hymnal carts. Help us to remember all the children who have touched us, heal us from their loss and celebrate the lives they led on earth as well as their new lives in God’s merciful embrace.
The Mass is sponsored by the Respect Life Committee and will be livestreamed on the parish website and YouTube channel as well as being celebrated in person in our shared worship space at 2330 W. Sunnyside.
